Metinvest’s green centre
Metinvest’s Green Centre is a public union that supports landscaping initiatives by citizens, public organisations and civic committees in the urban and suburban areas of Mariupol and Kryvyi Rih. It holds environmental events, teaches children about caring of the environment and fosters a culture of urban ecology.
Landscaping contest

The “100 Yards” landscaping contest started in Kryvyi Rih in 2016. Participants included private citizens, residential associations, housing cooperatives and civic committees.
More than 200 applications were submitted in the first stage of the contest and a total of UAH2.9 mn was allocated for 24 projects. More than 10,000 residents of Kryvyi Rih took part in the projects, which included cleaning up yards and building new recreation areas and green zones in six municipal districts.
Urban development forum

The first Green City international sustainable urban development forum was held in Mariupol in 2015. The discussion platform was organised by Metinvest's Green Centre and Zhiva Planeta, a Ukrainian public organisation. More than 200 experts took part in the forum, where the main topics of discussion were supporting environmental safety, improving production energy efficiency, achieving a high standard of living and conserving natural resources.

Programme participants learn about the environmental and practical skills for use in their daily lives. They plant trees and flowers, attend special master classes and scientific conferences on energy efficiency, and attend festivals devoted to healthy living. In addition, a landscaping school and a debating school for children have been opened.
As part of the “Return Batteries: Save Nature” initiative, students collected nearly 200 kg of used batteries and sent them to a recycling plant in Lviv.
Katerina Malkina, a 14-year-old Zeleny Parostok activist, won a silver medal at the International Ecology Olympiad VIII INESPO 2016 in the Netherlands. She presented an innovative new scientific project for recycling plastic waste that drew the attention of judges and scholars. The event featured 200 participants from 49 countries around the world.
