Metinvest has remained the country’s economic and industrial pillar in the face of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began nearly three years ago. Over the past decade of war, dating back to Russia’s aggression in 2014, the Group has managed to launch 422 new products.
This year, most of the new products were introduced in the long products segment (12), cold-rolled coils and sheets (four), hot-rolled coils and sheets (two), as well as galvanised coils and semi-finished products (one each).
Kamet Steel and Zaporizhstal account for most of the new products. Unisteel, the Group’s producer of galvanised steel, launched one new product.
Long products
All new long products were launched at Kamet Steel. The plant has mastered the output of the following products:
- Rebar for reinforced concrete structures: two new sizes and a new strength class according to the Ukrainian national standard DSTU 3760, as well as rebar according to Polish technical standards.
- Six types of wire rod made of various steel grades and in different sizes according to Ukrainian, international, European and American standards. These products are used in construction, machine building and the production of metal products.
- Hot-rolled profiles for supporting mine workings of the SVP33 type according to Ukrainian standards. These special, interchangeable products are utilised to manufacture arch supports for domestic mines in the metals and mining sector.
- Round steel bars from St3ps steel with a diameter of 27 mm according to Ukrainian standards used in construction and machine building.
Cold-rolled coils and sheets
The achievements in this segment belong to Zaporizhstal: the plant has launched four products. These include:
- S250GD coil, manufactured according to Ukrainian and European standards that is used for further galvanising and other coatings, and then for the manufacture of lightweight, steel thin-walled structure.
- S215G rolled steel suitable for producing unwelded and welded metal profiles, sheets, supporting, auxiliary and decorative structural elements. It is produced according to the German standard DIN 1623-2.
- DC01 coil with a thickness of 2.5 mm that complies with European standards EN 10130 and EN 10131. This steel is ideal for use in applications where precise product geometry and ease of forming are important, while maintaining sufficient mechanical strength
- Cut sheets from cold-rolled coils with a thickness of 2.1-2.5 mm in a wide range of grades. This versatile material is used to produce various structural elements and technical products subject to cold forming.
All these products are intended for the construction industry, machine building and metal products segment.
Hot-rolled coils and sheets
Zaporizhstal has launched the production of two types of hot-rolled products: coils and sheets of S355JR/S355J2 grades with a thickness of 2.75-2.79 mm according to European standards, and sheets in a new size of 5.0×1500×6000 mm and made of 09G2/09G2S steel according to Ukrainian technical standards. These products are in demand in the construction and machine-building industries. The first product is used in the manufacturing of electric-welded pipes and profiles, while the second is used for producing structural elements for freight and passenger railway wagons.
Galvanised coils and semi-finished products
Unisteel has commenced production of S250GD-S280GD galvanised steel grades using coils supplied by Zaporizhstal. These steel grades are used in construction, namely in structures requiring a combination of strength and corrosion resistance.
Kamet Steel has launched the production of continuously cast square billets that meet higher quality standards, both in terms of chemical composition and physical structure after crystallisation. These semi-finished products are designed for the manufacture of long and structural steel for critical applications.
